Cover Me Up

Spring is FINALLY here, and I could not be more excited! While Spring ushers in the idea of glorious days of sandals + drinks on the patio, Mother Nature doesn’t always seem to cooperate. Spring can be cool, rainy or even 100 degrees. With Austin weather, who knows?! We say embrace your wedding day weather in one of these fabulously-functional cover ups.

Capelets + boleros = essential Spring accessories!

Gwyneth Paltrow was stunning in a Tom Ford cape as she walked the chilly red carpet at this year’s Oscars.

After her walk down the aisle, Kate Middleton donned a beautiful angora bolero with her satin reception gown.

Gold sequin bolero?!  A BZ must have!

I’m obsessed with this gorgeous lace cape from BHLDN!

A fab find … from the Gap, of all places!

More pretty capes to covet …

BHLDN Petal Panes Bolero

BHLDN Pearl Bolero

BHLDN Blush Petal Bolero

Love them all!

Alana + Adam ~ The W Hotel

There’s a special place in my heart for my favorite couple (so far), Alana and Adam. Alana was the very first bride I met on my very first day at BZ events. And this wedding will always remind me of how great my BZ journey has been. And how excited I am for the future. And how amazing my bosses are. Ha ha.

When all else fails, the Zells and Seigels in one room is all you need and you are bound to have a great time. This was surely the case for this wedding at the W. Alana + Adam’s ceremony was absolutely gorgeous — the sea of white benches and the fuchsia floral was chic and beautiful, overlooking downtown Austin. And the reception … a true celebration! More gorgeous floral by Merveille and amazing music by Sauce set the tone for the evening. This Horah was one for the books… 15 minutes of fun!

A+A — we wish you all the best and miss our planning sessions together. Come visit + bring Millie!

Burberry = Bracha

Yes, Burberry is surely a bracha. Bracha = a Yiddish word meaning blessing. (Thank you, MOB Nancy K, for our new BZ Yiddish dictionary!)

And I am absolutely IN LOVE with Burberry’s new interactive tailoring feature and new arrivals.

What Vera Wang is to Brides, Burberry is to Grooms. Nobody does tailoring like Burberry. There’s nothing like the cut, fit and style of a Burberry suit. It’s purely heaven. Shout out to BZ summer groom, AJ (of Sam + AJ), who knows what I’m talking about!

Grooms + groomsmen, visit Burberry’s tailoring shop to learn the rules. As always, you can thank me later.

Kate + Scott

Seriously … how cute are these two!?! We fell head over heels in love with this super-sweet engagement session at Zilker Park and just had to share! Cheers to Mollie of Bloom Photography for these fabulous photos.

Stay tuned for Kate and Scott’s Laguna Gloria summer soiree!! It’s going to be amazing!

Eat. Drink. Be Married.

WARNING. WARNING. If you are on a bridal diet do not scroll down. I repeat. Do not scroll down.

This blog goes against everything Henry mentioned in “Is That Paleo?” And to all of you other brave readers and foodies out there, you’re welcome for posting this after Spring Break. You can thank me later.

Recently, I checked another thing off of my wedding planning “to do” list and it has undoubtedly been one of my faves of the whole planning experience so far … the tasting.

I knew I was leaving on a family vacay later that day and with a wedding in (can you believe it?) just about three months … all I could think was “I have a dress to fit into!” Well, as soon as they started bringing out the food, I pushed those thoughts aside, and instead of counting calories, I was counting the amount of food I could fit in my stomach in one sitting!

I know y’all are just dying to see some of the things we tasted … but I’m giving nothing away on what we picked or didn’t end up picking. That would be a spoiler for my wedding! Also, there are things that we tried that I was too busy eating to snap a picture of. Sorrrrry … but my stomach was definitely not sorry. Bon appétit!

If you’re an avid follower of our BZ Blog you know we are obsessed with all things mini. These mini margs did not disappoint!

The only thing that I would have changed were to have more of them. But the good people at The Houstonian were on their A-game (as always) and read my mind…

Two baby margs! We now have a recipe I’d swear by. Get a pen. Write this down.

If you need a good margarita recipe and you’re a margarita snob, like my family, you can thank me later … Ready?

1/3 Silver Tequila

1/3 Grand Marnier

1/3 Fresh Lime Juice

Add Agave Nectar to taste.

Shake it. Try it. Love it. You’re welcome.

Options for passed appetizers. At this point, we were all going strong. All smiles + happy stomachs.

All of these options were AMAZEEEE and I definitely cleared my plate.

Caught: Big John breaking his “Spring Break Diet” to munch on a slider … You would too if it looked like this!

(Big John is my amazing dad — look how cute his blue sports coat is! We all know Henry would approve.)

YES. I hear the hallelujah choirs singing.

Crab cakes with avocado slaw. At this point I’m drooling.

I realize mashed potato bars are somewhat overdone. But I’ve wanted one since I was a little girl. Seriously.

Thanksgiving is my favorite meal solely for the potatoes. If you need another good recipe for some great ‘taters, let me know. I won’t steer you wrong. I love potatoes. Give me a break.

Stir fry is definitely not in my bridal diet. Did I eat it anyways? Yes. I needed a side order of MORE PILATES after it.

Finally, a quartet of soup shooters to finish! All were great, of course.

You’re welcome for the wonderful food pictures. I’m sorry that you are now starving and have to run to your pantry or nearest restaurant to satisfy your new food cravings.

My advice for future B+Gs getting ready for their tastings … come HUNGRY!

Until next time ~ BZ intern, Brynne

PS — any ideas for a great work out to burn off this tasting? Eeeks!

ARW – Olive You!

Bon Appetit! It’s (almostAustin Restaurant Week.

In case you need an excuse for a culinary splurge, allow us to introduce you to the most delicious time of the year in our city, happening again next week, March 25-28 + April 1-4. Hello, perfect timing for amazing Austin patio weather!!

We can’t think of a better way to sample rehearsal dinner (and post-wedding brunch) spots than indulging in this limited-time-only deal. Now, mark that off your BZ Planning Calendar. We do love to multitask!

Enjoy three-course prix-fixe dinner (and lunch) menus from $11 – $36 at your favorite Austin hot spots.

PS — one spot that absolutely must be on your list is our new BZ fave, Olive & June. O&J — olive you! Perfect for a rehearsal dinner, brunch or drinks with the gals, we highly recommend. Here are a few photos from one of our recent BZ excursions. Disguised as research.

Start with a cocktail. Or three. We love the Sgroppino -- say that three times, fast.

Crostini times three!

The infamous O&J fried ravioli. As one of our clients says ... "I've been dreaming of these raviolis every night since the first time." Whoa.

Suppli. AKA fried balls of amazingness.

Too full for dessert? Too bad. These nutella + orange donuts are life-changing.

We can’t think of a more delicious date night with the fiance or the future in-laws! Peruse the menus and map out your plan of attack.

Is That Paleo?

“Did you watch Bravo last night?” … the usual (rhetorical) question of the day at the BZ office, is experiencing some competition.

“Is that Paleo?” is the new phrase we’ve adopted. The phrase is inspired by our soon-to-be married clients, who set eyes on one another at a CrossFit Class. Noah also proposed to Kelli where they first met — the CrossFit gym! Remember the cute video we posted?

In my attempt to “tone up” and get into shape for Spring wedding season, Kelli mentioned the Paleo Diet (aka Caveman Diet) during a planning meeting. Now, we use this phrase more than we drink water! Water = definitely Paleo.

Short for paleolithic, the diet consists of fruit, vegetables, lean meats + almonds. Basically, it’s okay to eat anything that a caveman could find thousands of years ago. This excludes refined sugars, cereals, alcohol + dairy products. But, you can have endless amounts of sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes = win.

Becky always throws the paleo question at me when we’re at lunch meetings, tastings, or when I’m walking to the BZ sweets cabinet. She usually succeeds in making me feel guilty. Ugh. Paleo … “It’s so easy a caveman could do it.” NOT! Sorry, Geico.

Poor cavemen, it really isn’t that easy. I don’t know what I’d do without Torchy’s queso, Grandma’s banana bread or Amy’s Ice Cream.

Nelli … anytime we ask ourselves “Is that Paleo?” … we think of you.

~ Henry

Here are some Paleo-proof, BZ-approved recipes you can incorporate into your party menu. Or the pre-wedding diet. Enjoy!

March 15, 2012 - 6:28 pm Kelli Murchison - Haha! I love it! "Is that Paleo??" is a phrase we use daily. In fact, we are strict Paleo right now in preparation for the wedding/honeymoon. But as the resident Paleo experts, we want to ensure you know the importance of a CHEAT meal. Don't deny yourself Torchy's, Amy's and definitely not Grandma's banana bread! Can't wait for next weekend!

BZ on Martha Stewart Weddings

Yeeeeee-haw! We are on Martha Stewart today! Meet Sorenne and Matt, who tied the knot last year at the super fun Three Points Ranch. We loved Sorenne’s blush pink wedding dress, their gorgeous stationery suite and the delicious dessert display full of Hill Country Pecan pies, french macarons from Walton’s and all kinds of yummy things. This wedding was an eclectic mix of rock n’ roll chic and Airstream funk. A true Austin original.

Enjoy!

Think Outside the Box

The card box … that lovely little item that is forever being pushed to the bottom of your wedding checklist. Your card box may seem like the smallest of details, but it’s one detail that all of your guests are sure to see!

Rather than making your guests drop their well wishes (and checks) into that satin covered “Am I entering a raffle?” card box a la Father of the Bride, provide your guests with an attractive box more fitting of their love and generosity.

Just say NO.

Here are a few of my faves … also, don’t forget to check with your florist + event decor company. They may have something fabulous that you can rent! Personally, I love the idea of buying an amazing jewelry box and using it post-wedding to store pretty sparkly things. Sentimental and practical.

Enjoy!

Megan

Val + John ~ Green Wedding Shoes

Thrilled to see Val + John again … this time on Green Wedding Shoes! We love this eclectic wedding … the tee pee, the succulents, the cow skulls … so much fun.

Pop over to GWS and check out their “Marfa meets Mercury Hall” wedding. Oh, and then come right back to the BZ blog and read all about Henry’s bow tie wardrobe advice. Mkay?
